Students Learn About Heroism

Leading into the 20th anniversary of the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, fifth-grade students from Bemus Point Elementary School deepened their understanding of heroism through reading, speaking and writing about the events. One particular story from Welles Crowther, known as the man in the red bandana, made a great impact on the fifth graders. In culmination, each student was given their own red bandana to wear as they gathered at the flagpole at 9:11 a.m. to say the Pledge of Allegiance and share how they plan to engage in acts of service and remembrance to honor American heroes.
