Police Investigate Dunkirk Stabbing

An investigation remains ongoing after a woman was reportedly stabbed multiple times early Tuesday.

Chautauqua County Sheriff James Quattrone said the stabbing may have occurred in the Brocton area before first responders were summoned around 5:05 a.m. to an address in the 100 block of Lake Shore Drive West in the city of Dunkirk to render aid. The woman, who was not identified, was transported by helicopter to an Erie, Pa., hospital for treatment

The woman’s condition was not known Tuesday evening.

Dunkirk police, along with city firefighters and Chautauqua County EMS, responded to the scene where the woman was found. Crews were initially alerted to a “possible stabbing,” according to county dispatch audio, but later confirmed that a victim had suffered “multiple stab wounds.”

“It (stabbing) did not occur here in the city. The victim was located here,” said Police Chief David Ortolano on Tuesday. “It is being handled by the Sheriff’s Office.”

Added Quattrone: “We are investigating the stabbing that allegedly occurred in Brocton area. Victim is receiving medical treatment in Erie. Investigation is ongoing and has been all day.”
