CASSADAGA — For the third consecutive year, the Cassadaga Valley Central School District will have a new middle-high school principal.
During a special meeting of the school board this week, the board accepted the resignation of Chris Rusco, who had served as the principal for the 2020-21 school year. There was no further discussion about Rusco’s resignation.
Following an executive session, the school board unanimously appointed David Davison to serve as the interim middle-high school principal, which will be effective July 6. Davison will work in that position until the district completes a successful search for the next principal.
Cassadaga Valley Superintendent Charles Leichner indicated that a brochure advertising the opening will be made public by the end of the week and the posting will be distributed statewide.
Davison, who recently retired as the superintendent in Westfield, previously served as a high school teacher, an assistant high school principal and as a high school principal. Since he retired, Davison worked as an interim administrator having served as an interim assistant middle-school principal, an interim elementary principal, an interim high school principal and as an acting superintendent.
Rusco was sworn into the position in August 2020 and had previously served as the assistant middle school principal. Rusco was sworn in by the school board by a vote of 4-1, with board member Aaron Richner voting against the resolution, though he didn’t elaborate why.
Rusco’s resignation was accepted by the school board unanimously. Rusco was appointed to replace Scot Stutzman, who was one of 21 layoffs at the end of the 2019-20 school year due to budget reasons.
