County Seeks To Sell Timber From Erlandson Overlook Park
Chautauqua County is looking to sell some of its timber on county-owned land.
During the Public Facilities Committee meeting, county lawmakers approved a resolution for the sale and removal of sawtimber on 12 acres of land in the 76-acre Thomas Erlandson Overlook Park located in Frewsburg. The resolution calls for Marvin Troyer & Sons Lumber of Clymer to pay the county $10,250 for the timber.
County Department of Public Facilities Director Brad Bentley discussed the resolution during the committee meeting. He noted there’s a blocked view of Chautauqua Lake from the park and the timber company will open that view up. “Along with the $10,250 that the county gets for the timber that’s there, we also get an improvement to the park,” he said.
The money will go to the county’s Parks capital improvement account.
Bentley said the county has a contract with Forecon to evaluate its forests and manage what should and shouldn’t be sold for timber.
The resolution was also approved by the legislature’s Audit and Control Committee. The full legislature will need to give its approval next week before the contract can be finalized.
