Jamestown Pride Fest Set For June 12

The Jamestown Pride Steering and Planning Committees announced that Pride festivities will happen in downtown Jamestown on Saturday, June 12. The LGBTQIA+ community has historically celebrated Pride in June to commemorate the Stonewall Riots that took place in June 1969.

The day will start at 9:30 a.m. with a Pride flag raising and Pulse Anniversary Remembrance Ceremony on Tracy Plaza with Mayor Eddie Sundquist.

Jamestown Pride will be part of the Jamestown Public Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pride-themed tents will feature activities such as a “Gender Bread Person” booth, Drag Time Story Hour, and a Pronoun Button tent.

Activities also will be taking place from noon until 9 p.m. on the Wintergarden Plaza on North Main Street. These will include resource tables from local organizations, a yoga class, and Zumba class.

Pride Fest will be capped off with a free performance at 8 p.m. at the Wintergarden Plaza by RuPaul’s Drag Race Star and Jamestown native Pandora Boxx.

“After having to cancel most of last year’s Pride events we had been planning due to the Pandemic, we are so excited to be able to hold this festival this year,” said Pride coordinator Sheridan Smith. “It is important for the Queer community to have opportunities to celebrate our Pride of who we are with each other, while we also provide resources to our community for those who may be in the process of coming out and finding that pride in themselves.”

“Pride is about finding strength through love, inclusivity and unity, and pride as a concept – as a time to reflect and raise our voices – will always remain,” said Justin Azzarella, chief strategy officer of Evergreen Health. “We are thrilled to sponsor this year’s festivities in Jamestown and wish everyone a safe and happy Pride.”

Attendees to all activities will be required to wear masks and social distance per CDC and Health Department guidelines.
