Body Found; Identified As Warren Man

WARREN, Pa. — A body found last week in the Allegheny River in Warren County has been identified as that of a man previously reported missing.

John C. Nelson, 55, of Warren, was confirmed following a Monday autopsy.

“Following an autopsy performed by Erie County Medical Examiner Dr. (Eric) Vey, the body recovered from the Allegheny River last Friday has been identified as Mr. John Christopher Nelson, who had been missing from Warren since Feb. 5, 2021,” City of Warren Police Chief Joe Sproveri said. “The reported cause of death was determined to be drowning. No foul play is suspected and the investigation into this incident is closed.”

Multiple searches for Nelson and Nicole L. Font involving numerous agencies were conducted in and around the Allegheny River in February and March by air, water, and land.

Numerous agencies, including Pennsylvania State Police, City of Warren Police, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, Tidioute Volunteer Fire Department, and West Hickory Volunteer Fire Department responded to Davey Hill Road along the river about five miles northeast of Tidioute on Friday after the body was seen.

The search for Font, 49, of Warren, who was last seen on March 14, continues.
