Key County, State COVID Stats Dip

Active COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and those in quarantine all dipped in numbers released Friday by the Chautauqua County Department of Health. Similar stats statewide also appear to be on the decline.

There were currently 124 active cases in the county, a decline of 19; six people with the virus in the hospital, down from the eight reported Thursday; and 376 people in quarantine, a drop from the 396 noted a day earlier.

In addition 13 new COVID cases were recorded by the health department, marking 7,525 to date, as well as 7,264 recoveries, 137 COVID-related deaths and a 1.1% seven-day positivity rate.

In neighboring Cattaraugus County, 11 new cases were identified. There have been 4,307 confirmed cases to date in Cattaraugus, in addition to 4,025 recoveries and 86 deaths.

There were currently 186 active cases, 20 in the hospital and a seven-day positivity rate of 3%.

Statewide, COVID-related hospitalizations dropped to 5,626 — the lowest since Dec. 12, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Friday in his daily report.

Meanwhile, the single-day positivity rate dropped to 2.82%, the lowest since Nov. 21, and the seven-day average positivity rate dropped to 3.22%, the lowest since November 26.

“Defeating COVID-19 is front and center in New York state, and declining positivity rates and hospitalizations are aiding our efforts to vaccinate more New Yorkers, reopen the economy and get to the light at the end of the tunnel,” Cuomo said.
