SILVER CREEK — Just prior to opening Wednesday morning at 9, a motorist and regular patron of Aunt Millie’s Restaurant had a close encounter of the worst kind. While pulling into a parking space on the west side of the location, he mistakenly crashed into the glass awning of the facility.

“It was just a freak accident,” server Tracy Lyndsey said. “It was a shock, but we weren’t open yet so thankfully no one was hurt.”

The damage was extensive and left glass throughout that portion of the restaurant. Disaster Relief was on the scene quickly, securing the building. The restaurant was open then and is still maintaining regular business.

In a note on its Facebook page, Aunt Millie’s noted: “A Huge Thank You to Disaster Relief for Saving The Day! They came right out to fix our Disaster so we could stay Open!”

Aunt Millie’s Restaurant, located on Routes 5 and 20. According to the restaurant’s web site the eatery was named after the daughter of an Italian immigrant who came to America in hopes of a better life. He settled in Silver Creek, married and had nine children. She was the second youngest of the bunch. Her mother passed away when she was young, and as a result Millie was made to quit school after eighth grade to take care of the brothers who still remained in the house.

She made homemade breads, sauces, and desserts mostly from ingredients they grew or raised because it was all they could afford.

“Established in 1987, we are still a family run business for 30 years using Aunt Millie’s recipes,” the web site said.
