Mitrano Admits Loss, Still Wants Votes Counted

Tracy Mitrano

Tracy Mitrano accepts defeat, but is still advocating that every vote be counted.

Mitrano, Democratic candidate for the New York State 23rd Congressional District has, on her social media and during her final Thursday call, notified her supporters of her defeat. However, she wants to support the idea that “every vote matters,” so she will wait until all remaining absentee ballots are counted before making any final statements.

“I certainly can see the math. However, we’re going to continue to advocate that every vote be counted,” she said on her call on Thursday. “The reason we’re taking that position is in part, to support the national effort that is currently ongoing, in part, to support for generally a notion of democracy and that every vote counts, and specifically for our district.”

While accepting defeat, Mitrano is insisting the margin of votes between her and the incumbent Reed will turn out to be smaller than he thinks.

“The margin that Mr. Reed is celebrating will narrow considerably once these absentee ballots come in,” she said. “I think that echoes some of the games that we have seen this party and this president play. … It’s erroneous, in terms of the margin that he is celebrating that will narrow considerably. Now by next week, I hope we will have a better picture of where the actual count lies.”

The last thing Mitrano wanted her supporters to know, who were and are still waiting anxiously for the counting of the absentee ballots is that she is proud of the work they did and to thank them for all their support throughout the campaign.

“We will be sure that their vote is counted, included, and heard. And with respect to people who did support me I am very, very grateful for their support,” she said. “They have every reason in the world to hold their head high. We ran a clean and honest campaign. That was not supported by corporate PAC money. Indeed, it was supported as a genuine grassroots effort.”
