County Reports 15th Death Related To COVID-19

The Chautauqua County Department of Health on Tuesday reported the 15th death related to COVID-19, a man in his 80s and a resident of Tanglewood Manor.

“Providing information on the COVID-19 outbreak at Tanglewood Manor has been done as a way to manage the spread of COVID-19,” said Christine Schuyler, county public health director. “As such, we feel it appropriate to disclose that the death we’re reporting today is that of a Tanglewood Manor resident. A gentleman in his 80s has succumbed to complications of this infection; our sincere condolences go to his loved ones.”

The county noted 12 new COVID-19 cases, including four in the Jamestown zip code, two in Clymer, two in Fredonia, two in Dunkirk and one each in Lakewood and Cherry Creek. There remains 134 active cases for those who continue to recover under orders from local health officials.

In regard to Tanglewood Manor, the county Health Department said there are currently three active cases among employees and 14 actives cases among residents at the adult care facility. To date, 23 employees and 75 residents have recovered.

The county also said it is still investigating a cluster of cases in the north county as the result of a private event. At least 21 cases have been linked to the private event; two cases are active and 19 have recovered.

There remains 25 people with the coronavirus hospitalized, in addition to 967 recoveries and 1,116 total confirmed cases.
