A traffic stop by New York State Police in Jamestown led to the arrest of a 28-year-old city man and the discovery of a weapon and numerous drugs, including cocaine and fentanyl.
On Wednesday, troopers charged Devonte Chandler, 28, with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
Troopers pulled over Chandler for committing a traffic violation at Railroad Avenue and Route 62 in Frewsburg and placed him under arrest after the following items were found in his possession: a loaded Smith & Wesson M&P Shield, a bag containing cocaine and ecstasy, two bags containing fentanyl and heroin, a bag containing cocaine, and several items used for narcotics packaging and sale.
Additional investigation revealed that the handgun had been reported stolen from Pennsylvania and that Chandler’s driving privileges in New York had been suspended. Chandler was then processed at Jamestown and transported to the Chautauqua County Jail.
