BOCES Begins Reopening Process

Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES has reopened to a five-day-a-week, face-to-face model.

“We reopened at the start of the school year as a hybrid model,” said David O’Rourke, district superintendent. “That was originally two days in class, three days remote.”

O’Rourke shared that the special education and other classes have all reopened to in-class work five days a week earlier this month, but like other schools, parents have the option for full-time remote for their children.

Right now the focus of the school is trying to get the Career in Technical Education classes, such as auto body and cosmetology to a five day in class as well currently those are still in the hybrid stage.

“If we have a case, which there was one in Erie County, we follow all health department guidelines,” O’Rourke said. “We notify all the families and staff at that location and the health department contacts any and all families that had direct contact with the individual.”

A number of procedures are taken to safely allow students and families if need be to enter the building.

“Every day their temperature is taken,” O’Rourke said. “They are also screened with a questionnaire about health and travel and of course we have social distancing and mask requirements.”
