Man In Stolen Vehicle Jailed After Chase
A Canadian man driving a stolen vehicle from Michigan was taken into custody following a chase that began and ended on Interstate 86.
A state trooper was reportedly monitoring traffic on the interstate Wednesday at about 1:20 p.m. in the town of North Harmony when a 2010 black Jeep Grand Cherokee bearing Michigan registration drove past at a high rate of speed. The chase ended in the town of Poland due to damage to the SUV’s oil pan, the state police said in a news release.
The driver, identified as 33-year-old William Stevens of Canada, reportedly displayed a knife but was taken into custody without further incident.
An investigation found that Stevens entered the country through Michigan and allegedly stole a vehicle from Port Huron, Mich.
Charges are pending further investigation, the state police said.
Troopers were assisted Wednesday by the Ellicott Police Department and Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.
