SILVER CREEK — There was some high drama in this village after the noon hour.

Elm Street was closed and neighbors in the area were told to shelter in place as Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies were involved with a suspect wanted in an aggravated assault incident in Florida. After a lengthy discussion — and some tense moments — deputies apprehended the suspect wanted in a Florida incident at 15 Elm St. after a lengthy standoff.

The wanted fugitive from Florida, Timothy G. Winford, 38, peacefully surrendered to authorities without incident around 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Winford was taken into custody to be transported to the Chautauqua County Jail as a fugitive from justice on the Florida charge of “aggravated Assault without a weapon with the intent to kill.”

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office were assisted by the SWAT Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, CCSO K9 Units and Emergency Services.
