FREWSBURG — Residents and visitors enjoying the Marden E. Cobb Waterway Trail can expect to see crews making improvements in the town of Carroll this summer.

The trail includes a 25-mile stretch of Cassadaga Creek, which runs from the town of Stockton south toward Carroll, covering a variety of natural terrain including forests and wetlands.

That section comes to a confluence with another 25-mile stretch of Conewango Creek, which runs from Kennedy south towards Frewsburg. Connections can be found to the Chadakoin River and the Alleghany River, and the trail offers a variety of access points for kayaks and canoes.

“Due to the ever increasing popularity of boating, fishing, canoeing and kayaking in our area, it was determined that the town of Carroll would expand the parking capabilities of the Marden E. Cobb Waterway Trail to accommodate the access to the Conewango Creek for recreation, fishing and tourism within our community,” said Carroll Town Supervisor Russ Payne. “Plans are also underway to expand the existing boat ramp access to the Conewango Creek to meet the growing needs of recreational boating and fishing in the area.”

Trail features include a number of access points with ramps for small boats, parking areas, kiosks and some small structures, including a lean-to.

“During the time of the anticipated construction and and improvements, we ask that the users of this boat launching area be patient while our town Highway and Water Department crews institute these much needed improvements to make it more user friendly,” Payne said.
