The Chadakoin River will once again be turned green later this month.

On Tuesday, the Jamestown Parks, Recreation and Conservation Commission met to discuss the city’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration, which will include the dying of the Chadakoin River.

John Williams, city parks manager, said the river is scheduled to turn green around 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14. He said that he expects the downtown area around the Main Street Bridge to be busy once again, with hundreds of people attending last year’s St. Patty’s Day celebration.

Julia Ciesla-Hanley, city recreation coordinator, said the Jamestown Community Chamber of Commerce will be providing hot cocoa during the celebration, which will also include music and a leprechaun.

In other business, Ciesla-Hanley said the city Easter Egg Hunt will be held at Allen Park starting at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 11. She said depending on the weather, the event will be held outside if the weather is dry or inside the former Allen Park Skating Rink if there is rain or snow. Participants are asked to bring a basket or bag with a handle for the collecting of eggs.

Williams also discussed that the Labor Day Fest Committee has met, with a discussion regarding the possible change of venue and day of the week. He said there was a suggestion that the Labor Day fest should be held on Saturday instead of Sunday. Also, that the fest should be held downtown instead of at Bergman Park.

Williams said he believes the committee will keep the celebration at the park, where there is more room for children’s activities. He also said having the celebration at the park helps when it comes to cleaning up after the event because the city’s Parks Department has more time at Bergman Park than they would if it was held downtown. He added that the city would lose revenue from charging vehicles $5 for parking at the park if the Labor Day Fest was held downtown.
