A site plan has been approved for the new retail store that will be located at the corner of Winsor and Crescent streets.

Tara Mathis, The Broadway Group development manager, presented the site plans for the proposed new Dollar General to the Jamestown Planning Commission at a meeting earlier this week. Mathis said the proposed store will be 91,000 square feet that will serve the daily needs of the surrounding community. She said city officials emphasized the importance of making the area around the store walkable to account for pedestrian customers, so the site plans for the store are pedestrian friendly. She added that there will be 25 parking spots available at the store.

Vickye James and Marie Carrubba, members of the Jamestown City Council, asked if there will be any late night delivers. They discussed how there have been problems with late night delivers at a retail store located on the corner of 11th and Washington streets.

Mathis said the deliveries will occur during store hours, with the store closing either at 9 or 10 p.m. She said the deliveries happen once a week with a “smaller” truck.” She added the parcel is zoned for manufacturing.

Mathis indicated there will be stormwater management drainage using a detention pond and the city’s existing storm sewer. She also said necessary landscaping will also be done at the lot.

Last October, the Jamestown City Council approved the sale of four parcels of land for $13,200 for the new Dollar General store.

The new construction of the store will also include the demolition of blighted buildings in the area.

In other business, the commission approved the site plan for a new Jamestown Board of Public Utilities sanitation vehicle barn. Jim Paterniti, BPU junior civil engineer, said the new barn will house five trucks. He said the size is 80 feet by 50 feet and will feature a concrete floor of drainage.
