WARREN, Pa. — A Warren, Pa., man awaiting trial after allegedly taking a backpack full of drugs to the school at which he was a teacher faces new drug charges.

Matthew R. Kiser, 44, is charged with possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, and tampering with evidence after an alleged incident on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, a woman in a Warren County mental health treatment facility reported on Wednesday that Kiser gave her methamphetamine.

The woman turned over to staff at the facility a bindle — paper folded into a container — that contained a white powder suspected to be methamphetamine, according to the affidavit.

“When staff attempted to search defendant’s room, they witnessed him throw a similar paper bindle into a cup of coffee,” according to the affidavit. That bindle was removed from the coffee and given to police.

Police said the bindles were folded in exactly the same way and the second also contained a white powder suspected of being methamphetamine.

According to police, the facility both Kiser and the woman were in a “secure facility that had limited visitation. It is believed that the defendant brought the methamphetamine into (the facility) with him when he was initially evaluated.”

Kiser was charged in April with possession with intent to deliver, two counts of corruption of minors, endangering the welfare of children, reckless endangerment, possession of a weapon on school property, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was removed April 16 from the class he was teaching at Beaty-Warren Middle School by City of Warren police following an anonymous tip, according to the affidavit in that case.

Conewango Township Police K9 Officer Nic indicated the presence of drugs in both Kiser’s backpack and vehicle, according to the affidavit.

Police reported that 2.2 grams of methamphetamine, 75 grams of marijuana, and more than 100 pills of various types were in Kiser’s backpack that he had with him in school.

Kiser was released from Warren County jail after posting bail on April 23.

A motion for a continuance in that case to the February 2020 trial term was granted in October.
