St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will celebrate its 125th Anniversary of the current North Main Street structure on Friday with a special “sparkling” toast and concert presentation featuring music director Ron McEntire and local musicians Cody Hiller and Brian A. Bogey.

“With all of the attention we have paid to restoring our church building these past few years, we can’t miss the opportunity to commemorate our quadricentennial,” said the Rev. Luke Fodor, rector of St. Luke’s. “We will be celebrating with several special events in November, the month that our building was first used. The very first service in this historic building was held Thanksgiving Day in 1894. We hope that the community will also save the date of Sunday, Nov. 24, to celebrate Christ the King Sunday with us for an exceptional worship service at 10 a.m.”

The evenings festivities will begin with the concert in the church at 7 p.m. The musical program will open with of Faure’s Sonata for Violin and Piano in A Major with Hiller on Violin and McEntire on piano.

A Frewsburg native, Hiller recently earned his master’s degree in violin performance at De Paul University. He is a currently a teacher at Southwestern Central School, has a private studio and performs in three orchestras.

After a short break, the Second Piano Concerto in C minor by Sergei Rachmaninoff will be performed by Ron McEntire on the piano and Brian Bogey, who will reduce all the instruments of an orchestra to the organ. This familiar work has been featured on television and film. It’s beautiful melodies and drive make it one of the most loved of all piano concertos.

The duo will be resurrecting the work after performing it together several years ago at Christ First Methodist church, five days after the death of Ron’s first wife. The piece is being dedicated this time to honor of their first child, Jason, who died from brain cancer this past June.

Bogey has given his entire musical career to the city of Jamestown as organist and choir director of Jamestown High School A cappella as well as several churches, and director of the Living Christmas Tree. McEntire has returned to St Luke’s church after serving 8 and half years at Christ First Methodist church.

The concert will be followed by a celebratory “sparkling toast” reception in the undercroft. Items from the St. Luke’s Thrift Shops Ten Thousand Villages Holiday Marketplace will also be available for purchase at that time with a 20% discount off retail prices.

There is no charge for the program. A free will offering will be taken to support some much-needed restoration and enhancement to St. Luke’s magnificent Aeolian-Skinner Pipe Organ.

St. Luke’s is located at 410 N. Main St., Jamestown. For more information call 483-6405.
