At a recent meeting, the Noon Rotary Club of Jamestown awarded two Paul Harris Fellow Awards to Gail Donus and the late Peter Elofson. Donus was receiving her sixth Paul Harris Fellow Award and Elofson receiving his first.

Accepting for Elofson were his wife Peggy and daughter Marsha.

Donus has the distinction of joining Rotary twice. Once in 1989 and again in 2016. She attended Frostburg University and McDaniel College. After a long career at The Resource Center, Donus has been very active in Rotary. Most recently, Donus and her husband, Daniel Maginnis, have included Rotary in their estate as very significant Benefactors and members of the Bequest society. Since Donus was receiving her sixth Paul Harris Fellow award, she is able to transfer her award to someone of her choosing. She chose Elofson.

Elofson worked for The Post-Journal his entire career. He was involved in many community activities including Rotary.

He also served as president of the Lakewood Rotary Club several times and was treasurer. Elofson was always willing to help friends and people in the community, always representing the Rotary mantra, Service Above Self.

A Paul Harris Fellow Award is a donation of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation and is a fitting testament to a member’s dedication and belief in Rotary. All current donations are made to Rotary’s goal of Polio Eradication.

The Paul Harris Fellow Award was established in 1957 to show appreciation for and encourage substantial contributions to what was then the Foundation’s only program, Rotary Foundation Fellowships for Advanced Study, the precursor to Ambassadorial Scholarships.
