WARREN, Pa. — After decades in the community, Tuesday marked the last day of operation for the Warren, Pa., Perkins.

The restaurant has been embroiled in its corporate parent’s bankruptcy since July.

One of over 20 restaurants owned by 5171 Campbell Land Co. Inc. based in Meadville, Pa., the future of the Warren Perkins has ping-ponged back and forth as the parties work through the bankruptcy process.

Now, Campbell is looking to sell over half of its restaurants.

Those prospective sales are outlined in several filings with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.

While many of the creditors subsequently objected or offered comments on the potential sales, an amendment to the stipulation and consent order between Perkins and Campbells appears to give the death blow to the Warren restaurant.

That amendment makes the Warren restaurant one of 13 restaurants that “shall cease operating as Perkins restaurants on or before Sept. 6, 2019, and shall certify in writing on or before September 10, 2019 that is has covered all signage identifying the Remaining Restaurants as Perkins restaurants.”

An interim consent order says that amendment won’t go into effect unless the sales are approved, but the Warren Perkins posted on Facebook that the closure was imminent.

“Thank you to all of our loyal customers,” the post said. “Sadly, Tuesday, Sept. 3rd, will be our last day of business after 40 great years.”

A franchisee manager, Paul Becker, previously told the Times Observer that the Warren restaurant “is still to remain open” independently.

“We’re trying to keep people employed,” he said. “We are not going to be a Perkins … We’re still operating. It will be a restaurant.”

Whether that remains the case in light of the recent filings is unclear. Becker could not be contacted on Tuesday, and a call made to the number listed for Perkins Restaurant & Bakery in Warren Tuesday afternoon was not answered.
