Lakewood To Hold Fall Festival Oct. 20

LAKEWOOD — Witches take notice for the first annual Witch Brew for You Fall Festival.

The festival, located on Chautauqua Avenue, between Third and Summit streets, will be from noon to 5 p.m. on Oct. 20. Beer tasting, food trucks, music and local vendors will all be available.

“Right now, there are at least five local beer vendors, two food trucks, and we’re working on vendors right now,” said Valerie Dow, board member of the Lakewood Community Development Corp. “All of the merchants between that area will be open with their own specials.”

Dow said that the two bands booked will be on stages at opposite ends of the street, alternating to encourage people to walk between both ends.

The event is being co-hosted by Chautauqua Lake Partnership, LCDC, and Group Ther-Happy, a local restaurant.

“We hope to bring activity to the Chautauqua Avenue,” Dow said. “Recently, there’s been a lot of new stores that have opened, and we’d like the merchants to be successful.”

The Lakewood Village Board approved the use of Chautauqua Avenue during its meeting Monday. The board also approved a special music permit for the bands, and agreed to relax the Open Container Law for the cordoned off area on Chautauqua Avenue.

“I’m excited for it,” said Ellen Barnes, a Lakewood Board member.

Dow said now that the event has been approved, the organizers can start advertising the festival properly.

“We expect to get a great crowd and everyone will have a lot of fun,” Dow said. “We’re trying not to do too much at once, and we’re hoping to see it grow and become a yearly thing. Everything is new right now.”

Dow said the organizers decided on the date because it doesn’t come into conflict with other festivals and that moving forward, they would keep the festival in fall.

“It should be a beautiful time,” Dow said. “Hopefully there will still be leaves on the trees with beautiful colors and nice smells in the air that help set the mood. It’s going to be a fun time for all.”

There will also be a witch costume contest at 4 p.m., with judging in two categories — scariest and most creative. For more information, go to the event page on Facebook.
