MAYVILLE — There will be gaming, crafting and pipin’ along the shore of Lake Chautauqua once again as the 14th annual Jamestown Regional Celtic Festival and Gathering of the Clans takes place at the Mayville Lakeside Park on Friday and Saturday.

Currently, six pipe bands are expected for the event, said organizer Doug Clark. The 96th Highlanders Pipes and Drums band, which sponsors the event each year, kicks off Saturday’s events with a presentation at 9:30 a.m. They are followed by a succession of pipe and drum bands throughout the day until the massed bands performance at 5 p.m. when all of the bands congregate on the center lawn.

“The most amazing thing to me is the continuous parade of pipe bands, one right after another,” Clark said. “It’s the overall atmosphere of the festival. It’s just a great time.”

New to the festival this year is a “fiddle session” featuring all acoustic instruments, Clark said. The session will take place in the music tend along the upper vendor’s row from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Clark said he expects 20 clans to be represented this year as well as approximately 20 vendors. Visitors can purchase celtic items ranging from kilts, bagpipes and swords to jewelery and glassware.

The traditional Celtic games will also take place throughout the day, including hammer throw and caber toss. There will be youth, amateur men, amateur women, masters women, masters men age 40-49 and ages 50-59, and professional.

Entertainment throughout the event will include celtic musicians Sue Tillotson and Jim Cunningham, the Olean Area Irish Dancers, Watkins Scottish Highland Dancers, McKenna Academy Irish Dancers, and the band Celtic Creek.

Visitors can also attend the festival from 6-9:30 p.m. Friday evening. Tickets are $10 for adults on Saturday and $5 on Friday.
