SILVER CREEK — High school seniors enrolled in Career and Technical Education programs at the LoGuidice Educational Center recently celebrated their achievement during a Senior Recognition Ceremony at Silver Creek High School.

“Each graduate in our CTE program has completed many hours of coursework, hands-on training, speeches, mock interviews, ELA portfolios, math, science, unpaid internships, NOCTI exams and many other great things during your two years at the LoGuidice Educational Center,” said Joe Pagan, LoGuidice Educational Center principal. “We have graduates leaving the program with a Regents diploma, technical endorsement, local certifications, CAN certifications, first-aid and CPR certifications and New York State OSHA certifications.”

The auditorium was filled with friends and family of the seniors, some of whom attended the same programs in high school.

Abigayle DiRusso, a Criminal Justice student from Fredonia, was encouraged to enroll in a BOCES program by her sister who attended the Cosmetology program last year and who now has a full-time job using the state certification she earned through BOCES.

“People who have not attended BOCES will never truly understand the importance and the amount of work that comes along with all of the programs,” Abigayle said. “Without Construction, the world would have no one to create structures; without Health Careers, the world would have no one to aid the ill; without Criminal Justice, the world would have no protection. Each program leads to an important job but this works needs to continue on.”

Many students who enroll in a CTE program as a sophomore have a plan in mind of what they’d like to do in the future. For Lauren Quagliana, a Culinary Arts student from Westfield, applying what she’s learned at the LoGuidice Educational Center is the key to her success.

“In the past two years, my knowledge and understanding of culinary arts and hospitality has grown immensely. From learning how to become a better leader and setting good examples, making amazing friends and improving my cooking skills, I have learned to be more influential to my classmates and my instructors through the events I have undertaken,” Lauren said. “I hope to one day open my own restaurant or become the executive chef in a high-end restaurant. I have a glimpse of what the future may hold. For all of you, the door is wide open for success.”

Several graduates were also recognized during the ceremony for their accomplishments in SkillsUSA, Explorers, Future Farmers of America, Health Occupations Students of America and National Technical Honor Society. LoGuidice Educational Center CTE students comprise the districts of Brocton, Cassadaga Valley, Chautauqua Lake, Dunkirk, Forestville, Fredonia, Gowanda, Jamestown, Lake Shore, Pine Valley, Sherman, Silver Creek and Westfield. Graduates will join 37,313 CTE students across the nation developing college and career ready skills through BOCES programming.
