Cherry Creek Association Announces Independence Day Schedule

CHERRY CREEK — The Cherry Creek Community Association Inc. has announced the schedule for the upcoming Independence Day Celebration weekend from Friday through Sunday.

The celebration, entitled “In Hometown Tradition,” will include many events from years’ past, some events making a reappearance after a few years’ absence and some new events as well.

Events begin early Friday morning, with the villagewide yard sales. Maps containing the locations of the sales may be obtained at Mendle’s Crossroads Grocery at the corner of Main and Center streets in the hamlet.

All other events will take place on the ballpark further down Main Street, unless otherwise noted.

Friday events in the ballpark will include various games, crafters, giveaways food vendors and chainsaw carving exhibitions. The beer and wine tent will be available also; no outside alcohol will be allowed on the premises.

Registration for the classic car cruise-in will begin at 5 p.m. with categories for entries of cars, trucks and motorcycles. Winners will be chosen by audience votes in all three divisions.

Music for the cruise-in will be provided by the Kokomo Time Band. The cruise-in will occur between 5-8 p.m. Rides by Top Amusements will be running from 5-10 p.m. From 8-11 p.m. Just Plain Lucky will perform in the pavilion of the ballpark.

Saturday’s event begins with the villagewide yard sales, food vendors, crafters, games, giveaways and rides by Top Amusements, the beer and wine tent, chainsaw carving exhibitions and the addition of the dunk tank.

At 11 a.m., the Little Mr. and Miss Cherry Creek contest makes its return in the grandstand of the ballpark

From 11 a.m. to noon, entrants in the pie-baking contest may drop of their entries under the big tent. Entrants are reminded the disposable pie tins are preferred, but not required, as clearly marked plates will be returned to their owners. Cream pies, or those requiring refrigeration, will not be allowed in the contest.

At noon, the lineup will begin for the parade on Southside Avenue, with the parade set to begin at 1 p.m.

At 2 p.m., the Cherry Creek Fire Department and Auxiliary will sponsor its annual chicken barbecue in the pavilion until sold out.

Also at 2 p.m. and continuing until 5 p.m., there will be pony rides and face painting by the Chautauqua County Equestrian Team in the Equestrian Trail parking lot.

The live auction will be held under the big tent beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Pie baking contest winners and parade winners will be announced following the auction.

A new addition to the Saturday schedule of events will be “Juggling by Dave and Kyle,” who will be appearing in the pavilion from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

In the pavilion from 7-10 p.m., The Untouchables will be entertaining, with the big giveaway drawing taking place at 8:45 p.m. All proceeds from the giveaway will be going to the Cherry Creek Community Association Inc .

The fireworks display will begin at 10 p.m.

Festivities continue Sunday at 10:30 a.m. with the community worship service in the ballpark pavilion, and conclude with the “Panther Prowl,” the all-Pine Valley Central School reunion in the pavilion, which begins at 1 p.m.
