“It’s good to be the king,” is a well-known quote from Mel Brooks, which he states in several of his films.

Well, on Thursday, it was good to be the mayor as Girl Scout Troop 20094 of Lakewood and Southwestern Central Schools visited Sam Teresi, Jamestown mayor, with Girl Scout cookies. The eight future entrepreneurs brought the usual favorites to the mayor’s office including thin mints, peanut butter patties, s’mores, samoas and lemonades.

Danielle Thor, troop leader, said the Girl Scouts will set up booths selling cookies at Wal Mart, Chautauqua Mall and Tractor Supply in Lakewood. People will also be able to buy cookies at Bair’s Pizza in Falconer. Thor said the girls dress up in costumes and have fun selling the cookies.

“It builds character,” she said. “Asking people (to buy cookies) gets them out of their comfort zone. It gives them confidence.”

Thor said the Girls Scouts will sell cookies through March 31. To find out where to buy cookies, go to girlscouts.org and click on cookies. She said all the money stays within the troop and the Girl Scouts located in Western New York.
