County GOP Puts Support Behind Borrello

George Borrello

Another day, another endorsement.

Less than 24 hours after the Conservative Party endorsed current County Executive George Borrello for the New York State Senate, the Republican Party has followed suit as it put its support behind Borrello Wednesday.

“We had an executive committee and there were a couple of candidates that were from outside of the county,” Republican Party Chairman for Chautauqua County David Wilfong stated Wednesday night. “We read their resumes and it came down to George and another candidate. The committee took a paper vote and George was the winner here.”

Tomorrow party members, along with Borrello, will meet with other chairmen from Cattaraugus, Allegany and Livingston counties in an effort to get backing for the Chautauqua County Executive.

“We’re going to roll George out and see if the other counties will get behind him,” Wilfong added. “This is just the first step of moving forward and George is now the nominee from Chautauqua County. We appreciate what he’s done and we know George is going to do a great job for Chautauqua County.”

The OBSERVER spoke with Borrello shortly afterwards.

“I’m certainly honored to have the Republican Party support me for this position,” Borrello said. “I think in having effective representation in the Senate will be key to moving forward so many of the projects that I’ve been championing so far as County Executive. That’s why I felt a lot of pressure and the sense of public service for me to move into this position and really not just for Chautauqua County, but the whole district.”
