Nowell Named Winner Of Joseph Mason Award

Steven Nowell has been named the 2018 Joseph H. Mason Award winner by the United Way of Southern Chautauqua County.

Nowell is a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 106.

“Steven honors the Mason family legacy in many ways, and the United Way of Southern Chautauqua County is pleased to name him as the 2018 Joseph H. Mason Award Winner,” said Amy Rohler, United Way of Southern Chautauqua County executive director.

Nowell is a lifelong resident of Jamestown. He enjoys spending time with this family, including his wife Tess Nowell, his children and his grandchildren. He enjoys camping, rails to trails bicycling and off-road jeep trail drives. Nowell works as a local IBEW 106 inside journeyman wireman for Ahlstrom Schaeffer Electric. He is a 26-year member of the IBEW and has been a data installation instructor since 2010, where he facilitates communications wiring installation class for second- and fourth-year apprentices. I

n the past year, he has been able to offer a Department of Labor-approved course of study using fiber optics association curriculum, a training partner of the IBEW Joint Apprentice Training Committee. He also recently graduated from the University of Michigan in the IBEW-NECA Electrical Training Alliance Train the Trainer program.

Nowell is a 20-year retired member of the New York Army National Guard, has volunteered on projects such as rebuilding playgrounds at CC Ring Elementary School, the Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Center relighting project and the Winifred Crawford Dibert Boys and Girls Club relighting project. He provided lighting and technical assistance to the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts, the Fenton Historical Society, including developing a security camera installation plan with its board, and also worked with Ahlstrom Schaeffer Electric on several data projects for the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation as well as volunteered for the Rails to Trails and Allegheny river clean up events. In 2009, he received the Jamestown High School Lady Raiders Basketball “Friend of the Program” Award.
