More James Prendergast Library art has been sold during two auctions held by Stair Galleries.
According to stairgalleries.com, seven library paintings sold during an auction held March 2. The paintings included in this auction included William Trost Richards’ “The Evening Star,” which was estimated to sale for $800-$1,200 and sold for $11,000; Alfred Bryan Wall’s “Clay Head Road,” which was estimated to sale for $400-$600 and sold for $6,500; Marie Dieterle’s “Cattle In Normandy,” which was estimated to sale for $800-$1,200 and sold for $4,250; Frederick Ballard Williams’ “Fete Champetre,” which was estimated to sale for $400-$800 and sold for $900; Georg Oeder’s “Woodcutter In A Forest,” which was estimated to sale for $700-$900 and sold for $800; Ambrose MacNeil’s “Sunrise On The Isle Of Mull,” which was estimated to sale for $600-$900 and sold for $600; and Adolf Humborg’s “Amusing News,” which was estimated to sell for $600-$800 and sold for $300.
During another auction held April 28, two paintings were sold — Anthony Thieme’s “Moonlight, Eastport,” which was estimated to sale for $1,000-$1,500 and sold for $7,500 and Ralph Albert Blakelock’s “Moonlight,” which was estimated to sale for $700-$900 and sold for $3,500.
In total, at least six auctions have been held since October that included paintings from the James Prendergast Library, with Sotheby’s and Stair Galleries each hosting three each. Of those six auctions, 42 of the 44 paintings consigning to Sotheby’s last June have been available for auction. Only five paintings, which were all made available during an auction in November hosted by Sotheby’s, made available for auction have not been sold.
Library officials could not be reached Wednesday by The Post-Journal for information on the two most recent auctions held by Stair Galleries, which weren’t announced to the public.
