Arkwright Supervisor Says Westfield Hasn’t Voted Down Wind Farms

ARKWRIGHT — As the debate of the pros and cons of the Arkwright wind farm continues, both sides have thrown their punches. Arkwright Town Supervisor Fred “Nick” Norton has kept up to date on the project.

One thing that was stated in the January meeting was Westfield’s opposition to a wind farm. In the meeting, members of the Concerned Citizens of Cassadaga Wind Project showed up en masse. Their opposition to the project, which is now finishing its concrete work, were the perceived negative environmental, property value and health impacts.

Mark Twitchell, who spoke with the group of Concerned Citizens, believes that property values may drop up to 40 percent and stated studies back that figure.

One facet to their argument was on Westfield voting no to wind farms. Norton followed up on that and stated that it did not happen.

“I called Westfield’s supervisor (Martha Bills) and there was no such vote. I said, ‘What about the village?'” Norton recalled. “She said, ‘I live in the village of Westfield and there was no vote in the village either. I want that corrected in everybody’s mind.'”

The next Arkwright Town Board meeting will be Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the town hall.
