An ice jam in the village of Silver Creek was reported Thursday, prompting a warning that evacuations might be necessary.
A flood warning was issued by the National Weather Service in Buffalo for Silver Creek due to ice jamming. The warning lasts through 8:15 p.m. Thursday.
County Executive George Borrello said county emergency services have responded to Silver Creek to monitor the situation with local fire crews.
“We cleared out some of the ice jam yesterday,” Borello said in a message to The Post-Journal. “It look like flooding in Silver Creek will not be severe, thanks in part to the proactive measures we took yesterday.”
Route 5 in Silver Creek was closed to traffic from Main to Parkway streets.

Flood indicators were also reported in the Sunset Bay area. “Please be prepared to evacuate if conditions deteriorate,” an alert said.
A flood watch remains for the rest of the area from 10 a.m. Thursday to late Friday night. Temperatures were expected to reach about 50 degrees Thursday and Friday before significant snow returns.
Fire and county personnel were staging in the village of Silver Creek to monitor the ice jams occurring along Silver Creek and Walnut Creek.
“Expect rapid rises and falls in water level along these creeks as the ice jams work their way downstream through the village of Silver Creek toward Lake Erie,” the weather service said.
Flooding was expected to occur along Route 20, Main Street and Central Avenue in the village, the alert noted.
