Child Advocacy Program Director Resigns

Jana McDermott has resigned as the Child Advocacy Program’s executive director.

McDermott achieved numerous accomplishments during her 10-year tenure at CAP including successfully leading the initial development of the CAP program, achieving accreditation by the National Children’s Alliance and New York State Office of Children and Family Services, and transitioning the administration of CAP from the county to a nonprofit organization led by a volunteer board of directors.

“Under Jana’s leadership, CAP developed two child-friendly facilities in Chautauqua County, spearheaded the video recording of child abuse forensic interviews, implemented on-site evidence-based mental health treatment for children, and oversaw grant development and fundraising to financially support the program,” said Betsy Goldman, president of the CAP board. “Jana also introduced the Stewards of Children child abuse prevention program to Chautauqua County. The Stewards of Children prevention program educates adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to abuse.”

Carey Lee, lead child advocate for CAP, has been appointed as interim executive director while a search committee forms to find a full-time replacement. More information about the position will be available in the coming weeks.
