Busti Historical Society To Meet Aug. 2

BUSTI — The Busti Historical Society monthly business meeting will be held Wednesday, Aug. 2, at 7 p.m. in the meeting room at the museum building next to the Grist Mill.

At the July 5 meeting members of the Busti Fire Department Auxiliary were present to talk about placement of their concession at the Apple Festival. The festival is Sept. 24.

There were reports on the Farm to Table Victorian Dinner, progress on restoration of the miller house, the Paul Busti Park project, and other projects completed and ongoing.

Flooring has been acquired and an agreement reached for additional labor on the miller house interior restoration. One room will be ready and open to the public this year at the Apple Festival. The Sherman Yorker Museum has offered to lend Busti Historical three period chairs. Bob Schultz, president, announced that some work will be necessary on the foundation.

The members agreed to accept the donation of the walking plow used in the ceremonial groundbreaking for the Lakewood Methodist Church.

The members recently made and canned more than 200 jars of apple butter for sale at the festival. Pie making is under way weekly.

Further improvements will be made in land behind the central buildings including repairs of washouts and sale of topsoil piles.

An advertising budget was established for the Apple Festival.

It was decided to apply memorial contributions in memory of Helen Andrews, longtime society treasurer, to furnishing the miller house in phase three of the restoration.

The mill was open for grinding demonstrations July 16 as part of the monthly schedule. Visitors from Montana and Texas were among those who toured the mill. The next grinding day will be August 20.

Starting at $3.50/week.
