Cherry Creek Independence Day Schedule Announced

CHERRY CREEK — The Schedule for the 2017 edition of the Annual Independence Day Celebration has been announced by the Cherry Creek Community Association Inc.

Festivities begin Friday with village wide garage yard sales which will continue throughout the weekend. Maps of locations of the yard sales will be available at Mendle’s Crossroads Grocery in the village. Other than the yard sales, all events taking place during the weekend’s festivities will take place at the Ballpark on Main Street. Rides by Top Amusements, food vendors, games, raffles, and chain saw carving will be ongoing throughout the weekend. The beer and wine tent will be open Friday evening as well, with patrons being reminded that no outside alcohol will be allowed on the premises.

Events in the park begin at 5 p.m. Friday evening with registration for the “Classic Car Cruise In.” Categories will include entries for cars, trucks and motorcycles, with the Cruise In beginning at 6pm. Adding to the enjoyment of the evening will be music by “Freddy and the Jets,” who will entertain until 8pm when the winners will be announced. Live acoustic music will begin in the pavilion at 8 p.m. and continue until 11 p.m.

Yard sales will continue Saturday. There will also be a display of Cherry Creek’s History beginning at 10am and continuing all day.

Entries for the Pie Contest may be dropped at the Big Tent in the Ballpark between the hours of 11am and noon. Entrants are reminded that no cream pies, or pies needed refrigeration will be accepted, and that pie plates must be clearly labeled.

Lineup for the ParadeDown Main Street begins at noon, on Southside Avenue, with the parade set to begin at 1 p.m.

Rides by Top Amusements will open at 2 p.m. and will remain open until 10pm. The Chicken Barbeque, sponsored by the Cherry Creek Fire Department and Auxiliary will also begin and 2pm until the chicken is sold out. There will also be a helicopter on display during the afternoon.

The Live Auction will begin at 2:30 p.m., with the parade and Pie Contest winners announced at the auction’s conclusion.

From 4:30-6:30 p.m. Live music by national recording artist Ricky Lee will entertain visitors, until “Uncle Ben’s Remedy” begins at 7 p.m., and concludes at 10 p.m.

The raffle drawing will be held at 9:45, with all proceeds from the raffles going to the Cherry Creek Community Association Inc. The Fantastic Fireworks begin at 10 p.m.

The Celebration comes to its conclusion Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. with the annual Community Worship Service held in the pavilion of the Ballpark.

The association also announced the rules regarding entries in the Pie Contest, which will be part of the annual Independence Day Celebration. The Pie Contest will take place Saturday.

Bakers are reminded that no cream pies, or pies needing refrigeration will be accepted. For the sake of convenience, disposable pie plates are desired, but not required. Those wishing to have pie plates returned must have them clearly labeled with the entrant’s name and phone number. Entries may be dropped off at the Ballpark under the big tent, between 11 a.m. and noon, and must be clearly labeled with the entrant’s name and phone number.

Entrants are reminded that the pies will be sliced and sold as refreshments during the afternoon, and winners will be announced at approximately 4 p.m., following the Live Auction, held in the Grandstand.
