Cub Scout Pack 115 gathered a variety of non-perishable foods and personal care goods from neighborhoods across the area for their annual food drive for St. Susan Center.

On Saturday morning, the group traveled through the town to collect the items set aside for their annual event. Cubmaster Thom Brunner said the group was thrilled to do it.

Brunner said this is the second time he has been a part of the event, but it has been held in previous years. Before the collection date, the scouts distributed flyers with plastic shopping bags to collect the goods and went out the morning after to retrieve the donated items.

Brunner said the event has been successful in the past, but appears to have topped even last year’s numbers of donations. About 1,000 items were donated to the pack.

“We gave out door-hangers Friday night, and collected the (items) this morning,” he said. “Mainly, people hit their own neighborhoods. It was throughout Jamestown.”

Brunner said the scouting program includes community service which is why the group held the drive. The scouts perform two services projects each year, and the effort also goes toward earning badges.

He said the group is always glad to give back to the community, and looks forward to continuing the drive in the future. Also, he said it is important for the public to realized that while the drive only happens once a year, St. Susan Center is always in need of donations.

The pack meets on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. at Conduit Ministries on 120 Delaware Ave. in Jamestown. For more information on scouting programs in the area, visit www.alleghenyhighlands.org.

Starting at $3.50/week.
