BPU Receives 2016 Audit
The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities heard from their accounting firm about last year’s audit.
On Monday, Laura Landers, Freed Maxick certified public accountants director, presented the 2016 year-end audit to the board, which included providing detailed financial statements for each of the five divisions – electric, water, waste water, solid waste and district heating.
For the electric division, Landers said the total change in net position was an increase of $2.5 million in 2016. This was less than the total change in net position for the BPU in 2015 when it was $3.2 million. The electric division had a net decrease in cash of $1.5 million last year. In 2015, the BPU’s electric division had an increase of $6.3 million in cash.
For the water division, the change in net position was a $150,000 increases in 2016. This change in net position was a decrease of $546,000 in 2015. The water division had a decrease in cash of $111,000 in 2016. In 2015, the change in cash was a decrease of $614,000.
Landers said the waste water division was the only division to have an operating income deficit in 2016. Last year, the waste water division had a change in net position decrease of $117,000. In 2015, the change in net position for the division was an increase of $368,000. The waste water division had a decrease in cash of $495,000. In 2015, the waste water division had an decrease in cash position of $851,000.
The solid waste division had a net position change increase of $118,000 in 2016. This was less than the change in net position of $214,000 in 2015. The solid waste division had an increase in cash position of $162,000 in 2016. The division had a net decrease in cash position of $138,654 in 2015.
The district heat division had a net change deficit of $92,000 in 2016. In 2015, the division had an increase in net position of $113,000. In 2016, cash position for the district heat division increased 142,000. In 2015, the division had a decrease in cash of $184,000.
