Fenton History Center To Host Holiday ‘Meet The Fentons’ Tour Today
The Fenton History Center is inviting community members to “Meet the Fentons” as part of its new themed holiday tours.
The tours, which are being held for the first time, will begin today at 6 and 7:30 p.m. and will continue at the same times on the successive Fridays through Dec. 16.
“This is an interactive play where, basically, visitors can walk through the mansion and overhear members of the Fenton family and staff talking about the holidays,” said Joni Blackman, Fenton History Center executive director. “(The tour) is based on fact, and concerns things that actually happened in the Jamestown area; particularly during Christmas of 1865. It’s more educational than some of our other tours, but it’s interesting and I think people will like it.”
The roles of Fenton family members will be portrayed by costumed actors that will offer a glimpse into life in the Fenton’s Victorian mansion during the holiday season. In addition to the information to be gleaned from the tour, attendees will also have an opportunity to see some of the Fenton History Center’s annual “‘Tis the Season” holiday exhibit, which features various seasonal displays depicting the Victorian age to the 1950s. Not only do exhibits reflect American holidays, but also Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and Los Posados, among others celebrated by ethnic groups.
Blackman said the “Meet the Fentons” holiday tours will run for approximately an hour and reservations are required. The tours cost $20 for non-members, $15 for members and $10 for children. Reservations can be made by calling the Fenton History Center at 664-6256.
The Fenton History Center is located at 67 Washington St. in Jamestown and is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information, visit fentonhistorycenter.org or find “Fenton History Center” on Facebook.
