CARTS Expands Rural Routes

The Chautauqua Area Regional Transit System is expanding public transportation services in the corridor from Jamestown to the southwest area of Chautauqua County including Ashville, Panama, Clymer and French Creek.

“This will expand service to early morning between Jamestown and the Ashville, Panama, Clymer and French Creek areas,” said Jennifer Blair, county mobility manager. “This new service will also allow for those rural areas to arrive in Jamestown by 8:30 a.m. and return to the rural areas leaving Jamestown at 2:50 p.m. Currently these designated rural areas could only arrive in Jamestown at 10:30 a.m.”

A complete schedule and times can be found on page 11 of the CARTS rural schedule book under Route 40. Those who live in the areas served by the new route and who have any questions or want to schedule a ride can call the CARTS office at 800-388-6534 or 665-6466.

“We are very pleased to be involved with a coordinated effort that will meet the employability, medical, grocery shopping and education needs of our Chautauqua County residents,” said County Executive Vince Horrigan. “The county looks forward to a continued relationship with TEAM Services, Inc. and the entire Transportation Team in providing future sustainable service.”

“TEAM Services, Inc. will provide the bus and the driver and operate under the current CARTS service,” said Ken Brentley, director of TEAM Services Inc. “This service will also assist in accommodating transportation from Jamestown to the Ashville area businesses by 6:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.”

“The bus will look very similar to the CARTS bus and will be wheelchair accessible,” said Cheryl Gustafson, senior project coordinator of CARTS. “Destination signs will be on the front and sides of the bus to assist the passengers. The bus will leave from the Train Station on 2nd Street in Jamestown at 6:05 a.m. and return from the Clymer Post Office leaving at 7:15 a.m. to Lakewood/Jamestown areas.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
