FALCONER – When Santa Claus isn’t in his sleigh, it has been said he rides a Harley Davidson.
Santa showed his affinity for the American motorcycle company Saturday when he visited hundreds of children and their families for a unique photo opportunity at Harley Davidson of Jamestown.
Perched on the upper level of the store with his reindeer, Dancer, Santa visited with each child. The entire store was decked out for the holidays with evergreen wreaths and Christmas trees, lights and a festive spirit.
Brian Reid, Harley Davidson of Jamestown vice president, said he was glad to see the families come out for the event.
“This is an annual event. Between this store and the old store, we’ve been doing this for about 20 years,” Reid said. “It’s just a way of giving back to the community and it’s a tradition.”
He said the store didn’t do any advertising aside from Facebook posts, but that the event “really caught on” this year.
“The guests got here early, and they are definitely excited,” Reid said. “When Santa came in, there was hooting and hollering because the big guy was finally here.”
He said while other photos with Santa can be expensive, he enjoys offering this occasion to both patrons and customers free of charge.
“It just seems like (this time of year) is getting a little more commercialized,” Reid said, adding his Santa was especially jovial and excited to visit with the children and their families. “This guy is genuine and putting the reindeer with him really adds a lot of credibility.”
While the photos with Santa were the highlight of the day, he said the store also had sales running throughout the day which will continue through the Christmas season.
The next event scheduled is a bike consultation, Reid said, as the store houses around 200 motorcycles through the winter months.
“We’re sending out postcards (to the owners) from their bikes saying ‘I miss you,'” he said with a grin “Then, we’ll do a winter consultation with them (for) their bike.”
He said the store will host a larger sale in the next few months.
“We’re winding down now because we’re coming into winter,” Reid said, adding another big sale is planned for January or February. “We typically do a huge end of the season sale. Then, we’ll start gearing up for spring.”
