Repeat Weapons Offender Charged Again In City

A city man is facing weapons charges after an incident Thursday.

Chris L. Freeney, 55, was charged with second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.

At approximately 7:45 p.m. Thursday, officers were on patrol in the northeast area of the

city. During patrol, officers observed a vehicle with equipment violations as well as a moving violation. Due to the observed vehicle and traffic law infractions Officers conducted a traffic stop. Through investigation, a passenger in the vehicle identified as Freeney was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun.

Freeney does not possess a valid New York State Pistol Permit and has been convicted of three felonies and 20 misdemeanors in his lifetime. While Freeney was being placed into custody he resisted arrest causing a brief struggle.

Freeney was subsequently transported to the Jamestown City Jail, where he was being held pending arraignment. Through further investigation it was discovered that the handgun Freeney was in possession of was reported stolen on a previous date in the City of Jamestown.
