County Under Winter Weather Advisory Until Monday Afternoon
A winter weather advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties until 1 p.m. Monday.
Forecasters say that lake effect snows are expected with total snow accumulations 4 to 7 inches in the most persistent lake snows across the higher terrain inland from Lake Erie. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph will produce blowing and drifting snow.
The greatest accumulations will be across the higher terrain inland from the Lake Erie shore. Accumulations close to the lake including along the New York State Thruway will be less than an inch.
During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally heavy snow with greatly reduced visibilities to dry conditions just a few miles away. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather, visibility, and road conditions.
