Deputies Locate Missing Hunter After 2-Hour Search
WESTFIELD — After a nearly two-hour search, a missing hunter has been found.
Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies report at 7:34 p.m. Friday, they responded to an area on Lyons Road to begin the search. Deputies learned through an investigation the hunter was tracking a deer and then became lost well into the woods.
With limited cell phone coverage, the hunter was able to contact a family member who he was hunting with and provided his coordinates before his cell phone became inoperable.
Deputies were able to deploy on foot through the terrain, snow, and cold, and with the assistance of K9 Bentley were able to locate the male hunter around 9:45 p.m. Assistance was provided by the North Lake Fire District who deployed their all-terrain vehicle.
At about 10:36 p.m. the hunter and all manpower were back to the roadside and the hunter was evaluated by the Sherman Fire Department. The male hunter, besides exhaustion was not injured.
