City Man Faces Charges, Children Taken By CPS
A Jamestown man faces charges after police found two children living in what police determine were “deplorable conditions” on Tuesday.
Jamestown police responded to an address on the city’s west side at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday for a report or disorderly conduct. Police found Austin Wynn, 25, of Jamestown inside the home, with Wynn telling police there was no disturbance. While speaking with Wynn, officers say they saw the residence was in “deplorable conditions.” with a 4-year-old child and a 1-year-old child sleeping on a mattress covered with garbage and insects. Police say there was no food in the residence and drug paraphernalia all over the apartment.
Officers called the city Development Department, with code enforcement officers deciding the apartment is not safe to live in, especially for children, according to the police report. Wynn was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance after police allegedly found methamphetamine in his sweatshirt pocket. Wynn was taken to the city jail until he could be arraigned.
The children were turned over the county Child Protective Services. CPS officials will determine a proper safety plan for the children.
