Jamestown Man Sentenced In 2023 Shooting

A Jamestown man has been sentenced following a shooting last year in the city.

According to District Attorney Jason Schmidt, Raheem Butts, 33, of Jamestown, was sentenced on Monday by Judge David Foley to a determinate state prison sentence of 3 years with 5 years of post-release supervision after he was convicted of second-degree attempted criminal possession of a weapon.

In April 2023, the Jamestown Police Department responded to a complaint of shots fired in the city. The police were quickly able to identify Butts as the individual shooting and found him to be in possession of a firearm.

He was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

In March 2024, Butts pled guilty to the lesser charge of second-degree attempted criminal possession of a weapon. He was also sentenced as a non-violent predicate felon for having more than two felony convictions within 10 years.

Schmidt would like to thank the Jamestown Police Department for their work on this case.
