Homeless Man Charged After Threatening Police
Two homeless Jamestown residents face charges after a search for a child possibly living in a tent with a parent led to chase through the woods along the city Riverwalk.
Robin J. Brown, 52, was charged with menacing a police officer, resisting arrest, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and second-degree criminal contempt while Autumn M. Simmons, 36, was charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration.
According to a police report, at 8:48 a.m. Monday city police officers were working a detail to assist city Development Department officials on the Riverwalk Trail near East Eighth Street. While assisting Development Department employees, officers found a tent with occupants off the trail. Officers made contact with a woman, , Autumn M. Simmons, who police report became disorderly and was shoving officers in an attempt to obstruct officers’ investigation. Officers checked one of the tents at the site due to information that Simmons had a young child living in the woods with her. Officers checked the tent and did not find the young child.
Police officers then made contact with a man identified as Robin J. Brown in the tent. While officers talked with Brown, he allegedly pulled out a large knife. Officers told Brown to drop the knife, prompting Brown to stand up and walk toward an officer with the knife held in his hand in what police said in the police report was a threatening manner. Officers then told Brown to drop the knife and tried to hold Brown at gunpoint, but Brown ran into a heavily wooded area. Officers pursued Brown on foot, with officers creating a perimeter around the woods and requesting help from neighboring police departments. After an extensive search involving the Jamestown Fire Department, Lakewood-Busti Police Department K-9 officer, Jamestown Police Department K-9 Officer Kal, the Celoron Fire Department, New York State Police and Ellicott Police, Brown was eventually found by city K-9 Officer Kal and Officer Kraft of the Jamestown Police Department.
