A Jamestown man faces assault and reckless endangerment charges after allegedly shooting another person in the face with a flare gun during an argument Tuesday.

According to a police report, Jamestown police officers responded to a reported assault at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Newland and Forest avenues. Marquan D. Carper-Cunningham, 18, of Jamestown, allegedly got into a verbal argument with another person and, during the argument, allegedly shot the person with whom he was arguing in the face with a flare gun while surrounded by several other people. The unnamed other person in the argument was injured.

Carper-Cunningham ran from the scene after the flare gun shooting. After an investigation a warrant was issued for Carper-Cunningham’s arrest, and he was found Wednesday by officers on a routine patrol. Carper-Cunningham was taken to the city jail pending arraignment.

In an unrelated incident, a city woman faces charges after allegedly hitting another person in the head several times with a metal pipe during an argument at a Water Street business on Wednesday.

City police officers responded to Water Street at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday for a reported fight/assault in the street and found Lovella A. Kellom, 37, of Jamestown had allegedly hit a person with a pipe before leaving the scene. The victim was taken to UPMC Chautauqua for treatment of a cut on their head. Kellom was allegedly found later near Allen and Maple streets still carrying the metal pipe police say was used in the assault. Kellom was charged with second-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and taken to the city jail until she could be arraigned.
