Dunkirk man accused of stealing $90,000 worth of fuel

SHERIDAN – A Dunkirk man has been arrested for allegedly stealing tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of motor vehicle fuel.

According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, on March 26, an investigation into stolen gasoline and diesel fuel from The Green Frog was launched by the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. It was found that since October 2023 Matthew J. Weaver, 50, had allegedly taken gasoline and diesel fuel from the business and sold the fuel at his own rate.

Deputies said Weaver kept the proceeds of the stolen fuel, which totaled more than $90,000.

On Monday Weaver turned himself into the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office for arraignment. He was charged with second-degree grand larceny and will answer to the charge in Sheridan Town Court.
