FREEDOM — State Police in Machias are investigating a head-on collision that left two people dead on Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 12:05 p.m., a 2006 Dodge Ram traveling westbound on Freedom Road crossed the center line and struck an oncoming 2005 Ford Focus traveling east. The operator of the Ford and a passenger were taken by Mercy Flight for serious injuries. The other two passengers in the Ford were deceased at the scene. The operator of the Dodge was treated on scene for minor injuries and transported to State Police in Warsaw for an evaluation and the passenger of the Dodge was transported by Mercy Flight with serious injuries.

The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Arcade Fire Department are on scene and assisting.
