High Wind Gusts Reported In North County

A lake-shore flood advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. today and a wind advisory is in effect until 4 a.m. Thursday for Chautauqua County.

Gusts of wind, reaching speeds of 60 mph at the Dunkirk Airport around 4:34 a.m. and 52 mph in Fredonia at 4:20 a.m., were reported by National Weather Service spotters as wintry conditions move into the region.

A winter weather advisory is in effect from 4 p.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. Forecasters expect snow showers and rain likely later today. Snow accumulation ranging from little or nothing across the lower elevations to an inch or less across the higher terrain.

Temperatures fall to the upper 20s on the hilltops and to the lower 30s across the lower elevations. West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

Lake snow and begins tonight and may be heavy at times. Additional accumulation in the most persistent snows ranging from 1 to 3 inches across the lower elevations to 3 to 6 inches across the higher terrain. Very windy with lows ranging from the mid 20s in interior valleys to the lower 30s along the Lake Erie shore. Chance of snow near 100 percent.
