Garage, Vehicles Destroyed In Morning Fire
A garage was destroyed in a fire that broke out Tuesday morning in Jamestown.
Crews arrived on Alton Place around 10:30 a.m. and found the garage “fully involved with fire,” said Brian Achterberg, battalion chief with the Jamestown Fire Department.
Achterberg said a car and motorcycle also were inside the detached property when the fire started. The destroyed vehicle could be seen from the road.
Achterberg said multiple hose lines were used to prevent the flames from spreading to two nearby homes. He noted that fuel inside the garage was on fire and had to be handled carefully by city firefighters.
“We used three hand lines to protect the exposures (and) to knock down the initial fire and to keep the fire from spreading,” Achterberg said.
No injuries were reported Tuesday on Alton Place. City fire investigators were called to the scene to look into the cause of the blaze.
Members of the Jamestown Police Department also responded.
